HOW TO PLAY THE SICILIAN DEFENCE?


The Sicilian Defence is one of the most popular openings. The aim is to attack the centre from the flank. Black thus exchanges his flank c-pawn for whites center d-pawn. The first moves are usually, 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 .


White will castle quickly and attack black on the d-file. Black in turn will strive for counter attack on the c-file. The Sicilian is a sharp weapon and can be used if you want to play for a win. It contains many main and subvariations and the eager chess student is encourange to fimilair themself with all the pitfalls such an opening might have. Most games from the Sicilian are spectacular.

HOW TO PLAY THE OPENING IN CHESS


1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Nc3 Bc5 5.0–0 0–0 6.d3 d6 7.Bg5 Be6 8.Qd2 Qe7 9.Rad1 Rad8....

In just 9 moves we have a typical position just after the opening. Note how both sides develop their pieces and is ready to attack.

  1. Play a centre pawn first. 1.e4

  2. Develop your knights second 2. Nf3

  3. Develop your bishops third 3.Bc4

  4. Castle 4. 0-0.

  5. Develop your other minor pieces.

  6. Develop your Queen to link your rooks.

  7. Centralise your rooks.

  8. Attack.

  9. Don't play the same piece twice in the opening.
